This isn't a device, it's a service

Hi Sean
I'm just catching up with your most recent IT World columns. I read this one just after a colleague e-mailed me a link to the Zonbu site. These guys are selling something which is a service and a device.
There's a notebook or desktop - Linux, small flash hard drive - with two price plans. We can buy it cheaply and sign up for the Zonbu always connected online storage (50GB) for a few dollars a month (plus broadband bills) or pay a lot more for the device with access to the online storage.
